How 1$ Changes the World
During a visit to Ecuador, my wife’s homeland, I was deeply affected by the poverty of many children living there. Imagine an 8-year-old boy standing in front of you, completely disheveled and with tears in his eyes. He holds out to you a half-wilted bouquet of flowers or a few tomatoes that he has likely obtained (probably illegally) and begs you:
«Por favor, … solo 1 dólar!»
(«Please, … just 1 dollar!»)
You see the need, give him the dollar, and tell him he can keep the flowers for others. You turn around—and there’s another child—and then another—and then… You could spend all your money in one day, and the next day, they’d all be back. The need remains, and nothing has changed!
At that time, my wife and I asked ourselves,
What should we do?
… Look away … or … make a change …?”
Our hearts told us that we wanted to make a positive change here. Thus, the vision of Immanuel-International e.V. was born. We utilize every single dollar/euro to ensure that the living conditions of these children are permanently improved, thereby laying the foundation for a better, more promising future.
